Key Messages:

  • 2.2 million Australians living at high risk of bushfire

  • We'll experience Increases in scale and frequency of risks

  • We're on an irreversible path to 1.5 degrees warming, 2-3 degrees warming is catastrophic

  • Be Proactive, If we wait for disasters, it's too late

  • Motivate, mobilise people to act

  • People now need to take personal responsibility - adults and children

  • Many low tech solutions available

  • We're taught to fear fire, be concerned and nervous. This sets up a barrier to  resilience

  • Individual knowledge and understanding is the most important to making good decisions in an emergency.

  • We need deep understanding and commitment by individuals

  • And many enlightened individuals that become highly interactive and share their knowledge and understandings with the broader community - for community adaptation.

  • Community become a support network in a bushfire event
